"名詞＋名詞"
與 "所有格名詞＋名詞"
的使用時機：
|
|
|
所有格名詞屬於形容詞，名詞也可用作形容詞，兩者都可以修飾後面的名詞。既然如此，何須捨簡逐繁而使用所有格，逕用名詞豈非直截了當
?
不可 ! 兩者雖都修飾其後的名詞，但井水不犯河水，各有其一定的領域。茲舉其要者說明如下
(帶有
" 's" 者代表 "所有格")：

表示"A所有的 B"時，只可用 "A's＋B"。

表示無生命的東西所有的設備也可以用 "of 片語" 表示所有。因此也可以說

表示植物和無生物
(A) 的某一部分 (B) 的名稱時，只可用 "A＋B"。—— 等於一個複合名詞。
如：

A 是動作者 B 的受詞時，名詞 A 不用所有格，該用 "A＋B"
的結構。 如：

A＋名詞 B" 與 "名詞 B＋of＋名詞 A"
的使用時機：𣿅

|
|
1.
|
"名詞
A＋名詞 B" 所表達的只是為人熟知的一個東西、一樣物質或一個人。
如果原來沒有的名稱，但要表示兩者之間的關係，則用 "B＋of＋A"
的結構。
例如 "女友"是有這個名稱的，所以用 "girl friend"，但是有沒有
"女敵" 這個名
稱呢 ? 沒有，所以不能用 "girl enemy"，應該用 "the (a)
enemy of girls(女孩的敵人)
"。再如 "山邊、海邊、路邊" 這些名稱都有，所以可以說
"mountain拟side,
seaside, r
oadside"，可是沒有 street side 或 house side，只好說 "the side
of the street / house
"。又如有 middle age (中年)， middle class (中產階級)， middle
man (中人，經紀人)，
middle ear (中耳 ——
醫學名詞)， midnight (午夜 ——
mid是 middle 的省略式，專用於字首
)， midday (中午)，卻沒有 middle street 或 middle road，只能說 "the
middle of the street / road (街 / 路中間)"。

road, tree 的 top 或 side 常用 "名詞＋名詞"，其餘的如談到某物的
front, back, top, bottom, edge, middle,
end, inside, outside 等類似的部分時，都是用
"of" 的結構。 如： |
